Rescue Roast® Hot Chocolate S'mores Dip
Warm, gooey, chocolatey and made for sharing.
Some desserts require precision.
This one requires chocolate, marshmallows and something crunchy to scoop it up with.
Our Rescue Roast® Hot Chocolate S'mores Dip is ridiculously easy to make and delivers everything you want from a proper comfort dessert: melted chocolate, toasted marshmallows and that irresistible pull-apart, scoop-and-share kind of mess.
Perfect for movie nights, braais, family get-togethers or any occasion where a normal dessert simply feels too sensible.
Ingredients
- 200 g milk chocolate or dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- ¼ cup Rescue Roast® Hot Chocolate powder
- 100 ml fresh cream
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- Pinch of salt
For Dipping
- Plain sweet biscuits
- Chocolate biscuits
- Strawberries
- Banana slices
- Pretzels
- Marshmallows
- Shortbread
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
2. Add the chopped chocolate, fresh cream, Rescue Roast® Hot Chocolate powder, vanilla essence and salt to a small ovenproof dish or cast-iron skillet.
3. Place the dish in the oven for approximately 4–5 minutes, just until the chocolate begins to soften.
4. Carefully remove it from the oven and stir until the chocolate mixture is smooth and glossy.
5. Cover the entire surface with mini marshmallows.
And when we say cover it, we mean cover it.
Seeing chocolate between the marshmallows is completely unnecessary.
6. Return the dish to the oven for another 5–8 minutes, or until the marshmallows are puffed and golden.
If your oven has a grill setting, you can grill the top very briefly at the end for extra colour.
Keep a close eye on it. Marshmallows can go from beautifully toasted to tiny campfires surprisingly quickly.
Serve It Immediately
This is not a dessert that wants to sit around waiting politely.
Bring it to the table while the chocolate is still warm and the marshmallows are soft and gooey.
Place your biscuits, fruit and other dipping options around the dish and let everybody dig in.
The Perfect Scoop
The goal is simple:
Break off a biscuit.
Scoop through the toasted marshmallow layer.
Drag it through the warm Rescue Roast® chocolate underneath.
Try not to get chocolate everywhere.
Fail spectacularly.
Make It Extra Indulgent
You can easily customise your S'mores Dip with extra toppings before adding the marshmallows.
- Chocolate chips
- Caramel pieces
- Peanut butter
- Chopped hazelnuts
- Crushed biscuits
- White chocolate chunks
Chocolate & Peanut Butter S'mores Dip
Drop a few teaspoons of peanut butter over the warm chocolate mixture before covering it with marshmallows.
Do not mix it completely.
Leaving little pockets and swirls of peanut butter gives you chocolate, marshmallow and peanut butter in the same scoop.
Which is clearly excellent planning.
Rescue Roast® Mocha S'mores Dip
For a coffee twist, stir approximately 1 teaspoon of instant espresso powder into the chocolate mixture.
The coffee intensifies the chocolate flavour and gives the dip a subtle mocha finish.
Serve it alongside freshly brewed Rescue Roast® coffee and suddenly movie-night dessert has become rather sophisticated.
Try It Around the Braai
This is a great dessert for a South African get-together because it fits perfectly into a relaxed braai evening.
Prepare the chocolate mixture beforehand, add the marshmallows when you are ready for dessert and bake until bubbling and toasted.
Then place the dish in the middle of the table and let everyone help themselves.
No slicing.
No plating.
No complicated presentation.
Just chocolate.
250 g or 500 g?
Rescue Roast® Hot Chocolate is available in both 250 g and 500 g bags.
The 250 g bag is perfect for hot chocolate and trying the occasional Rescue Roast® Academy creation.
But if the bag in your cupboard is now responsible for fudge, truffles, rocky road, cakes, milkshakes and S'mores Dip...
The 500 g bag is looking increasingly like the responsible choice.
A Dessert Designed for Sharing
One warm dish.
A pile of biscuits.
Lots of melted chocolate.
Even more marshmallows.
Put it in the middle of the table and prepare for it to disappear.
