Caring About Animals Does Not Mean Everyone Has to Make the Same Choices

From time to time, we are asked whether certain Rescue Roast® products are vegan.

It is a perfectly reasonable question, and we are always happy to answer it clearly and honestly.

In our range, all of our coffee is 100% vegan.

That includes our standard coffee blends as well as our Infused Coffee range. We also do not sell flavoured coffees, so there are no added milk-based flavourings or similar ingredients hidden in our coffee range.

In simple terms: if it is Rescue Roast® coffee, it is vegan.

Some of our other products, however, are not vegan, including:

• Hot chocolate
• Coffee mousse
• Milk tart mix
• Chocolate mousse

If a particular product is not vegan, that does not mean Rescue Roast® has anything against vegans. It also does not mean that we care any less about animals, animal welfare, or the incredible organisations working every day to improve animals' lives.

It simply means that particular product was not formulated as a vegan product.

Different People Make Different Choices

People make decisions about food and drink for many different reasons.

Some people are vegan. Some are vegetarian. Some avoid dairy. Some choose products based on allergies or intolerances. Others simply buy the products they enjoy.

We respect those choices.

What we do not believe is fair is the assumption that someone who makes a different dietary choice must therefore care less about animals.

Compassion for animals is not measured by whether every item in someone's kitchen complies with one particular lifestyle.

We Would Rather Give You an Honest Answer

If somebody asks us whether one of our products is vegan, we will answer honestly.

If you are asking about our coffee, the answer is very simple: yes, every coffee in our range is 100% vegan.

That includes our regular blends and our Infused Coffee range. Because we do not make flavoured coffees, our coffee products remain straightforward coffee products without added dairy-based flavourings.

If you are asking about our hot chocolate, coffee mousse, milk tart mix or chocolate mousse, the answer is no, those products are not vegan.

We would much rather give a customer a straightforward answer than make vague claims, use confusing wording, or try to create the impression that a product is something it isn't simply to make another sale.

If a product does not meet your dietary preferences, we completely understand if you choose not to buy it.

There should not need to be disappointment, judgement or hostility attached to that decision.

Sometimes a product simply isn't the right product for a particular customer.

And that's okay.

Animal Welfare Is Bigger Than One Lifestyle

Rescue Roast® exists because we love animals and because we believe businesses can create meaningful commercial opportunities for animal welfare organisations.

That purpose does not require every Rescue Roast® customer, supplier, rescue partner or member of our team to have identical beliefs, diets or lifestyles.

People can care deeply about animals while making different personal choices.

In fact, animal welfare works best when people from very different backgrounds can find common ground around something they all care about: helping animals.

We would far rather build that common ground than divide people into categories based on what they eat or drink.

Respect Works Both Ways

We respect customers who choose a vegan lifestyle.

We respect customers who do not.

We respect people with dietary restrictions and people without them.

And we believe that respect should work both ways.

Choosing not to purchase a product because it does not suit your lifestyle is completely reasonable.

Judging the character, compassion or commitment to animal welfare of the people behind that product is something very different.

Our products should be judged on what they are, and our commitment to animals should be judged on what we actually do.

Our Approach Is Simple

We will continue to be transparent about our products.

All Rescue Roast® coffees are 100% vegan, including our Infused Coffee range. We do not sell flavoured coffee.

Our hot chocolate, coffee mousse, milk tart mix and chocolate mousse are not vegan.

If that changes in future, we will say so clearly. Until then, we prefer to give customers accurate information and allow them to make the choice that is right for them.

No judgement. No argument. No attempt to convince anyone to change their personal choices.

We simply ask for the same courtesy in return.

Because ultimately, caring about animals should be something that brings people together — not another reason to divide them.

Different choices. Shared compassion. Plenty of room for both.
