Rescue Roast® Signature Coffee-Glazed Cocktail Meatballs

Juicy, bite-sized meatballs coated in a sticky, savoury-sweet glaze made with Rescue Roast® Signature Blend, tomato, honey and a hint of smoky spice. A bold starter that is ideal for entertaining.

Serves

6–8 people as a starter

Ingredients

Meatballs

✓ 500 g beef mince
✓ ½ cup fresh breadcrumbs
✓ 1 large egg
✓ 1 small onion, finely grated
✓ 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
✓ 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
✓ 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
✓ ½ teaspoon ground coriander
✓ ½ teaspoon salt
✓ Freshly ground black pepper
✓ 1 tablespoon olive oil

Signature coffee glaze

✓ ½ cup strongly brewed Rescue Roast® Signature Blend
✓ ½ cup tomato sauce
✓ 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
✓ 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
✓ 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
✓ 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
✓ ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
✓ Pinch of chilli flakes, optional
✓ Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Garnish

✓ Finely chopped fresh parsley
✓ Thinly sliced spring onion
✓ Sesame seeds, optional
✓ Cocktail sticks for serving

Method

  1. Place the beef mince, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, coriander, salt and pepper in a large bowl.

  2. Mix gently until evenly combined. Avoid overworking the mixture, as this can make the meatballs firm.

  3. Roll the mixture into small cocktail-sized meatballs.

  4. Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.

  5. Brown the meatballs in batches, turning them carefully so that they colour evenly.

  6. Transfer the browned meatballs to a plate. They do not need to be completely cooked at this stage.

  7. Add the brewed Rescue Roast® Signature Blend, tomato sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, mustard, smoked paprika and optional chilli flakes to the pan.

  8. Stir well and bring the glaze to a gentle simmer.

  9. Return the meatballs to the pan and turn them carefully to coat them in the sauce.

  10. Simmer uncovered for approximately 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through and the glaze has become thick and glossy.

  11. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

  12. Transfer the meatballs to a serving platter.

  13. Spoon the remaining coffee glaze over the top.

  14. Garnish with parsley, spring onion and optional sesame seeds.

  15. Serve warm with cocktail sticks.

Rescue Roast® Coffee Tip

Use a strong, smooth brew and allow the glaze to reduce gently. Boiling it too rapidly can make the coffee taste bitter and may cause the sauce to become overly sticky before the meatballs are cooked through.

Small bites. Bold flavour. One purpose-filled coffee twist. ☕🐾
