Does Dark Roast Coffee Have More Caffeine?

Not necessarily.

Contrary to popular belief, dark roast coffee does not automatically contain more caffeine than medium roast coffee.

What Is The Best Way To Store Coffee?

To keep your coffee fresh:

How Long Does Coffee Stay Fresh?

For the best flavour:

Whole Bean Coffee

Best enjoyed within 4–8 weeks of roasting.

Ground Coffee

Best enjoyed within 2–4 weeks after opening.

Coffee won't suddenly go bad, but flavour and aroma gradually diminish over time.

Should I Buy Whole Beans Or Ground Coffee?

Choose Whole Beans If:

  • You own a grinder
  • You want maximum freshness
  • You enjoy experimenting with brewing methods

Choose Ground Coffee If:

  • You want convenience
  • You use the same brewing method regularly
  • You don't own a grinder

Whole beans generally stay fresh longer.

What Is The Best Water Temperature For Brewing Coffee?

The ideal brewing temperature is:

92°C – 96°C

Avoid using boiling water directly from the kettle as it can over-extract the coffee and create bitterness.

A simple tip:
Allow freshly boiled water to stand for 30–60 seconds before brewing.

How Much Coffee Should I Use?

A good starting point is:

Golden Ratio

60 grams of coffee per litre of water

Examples:

250ml 15g
350ml 21g
500ml 30g
1 litre 60g

You can adjust this according to your personal preference.

Why Does My Coffee Taste Bitter?
